Made at Steptoe Butte, which rises to just over 3600 feet above sea level and provides panoramic views of the Palouse area in eastern Washington.
The rock that forms Steptoe Butte is more than 400 million years old.
Fields on canola (rapeseed) in bright yellow bloom provide spashes of color among the rolling hills of wheat and barley.
The butte forms a quartzite "island" that juts out from the silty soil typical of the Palouse hills.
